SHEBETA CARTER
Founder/Executive Director

From the time she was a young girl growing up in Alabama, SHEBETA CARTER has had a passion for acting, singing, dancing and TALKING!  Whether on her grandmother’s porch with her 3 siblings, a mop, broom & a Beatles song, at school in a little red tulip outfit or in church reciting Easter and Christmas speeches….the world was her stage!

These experiences, along with her participation in Chicago’s Farragut High School drama club, the Girl’s Chorus and Memorial Baptist Church Choir, helped to keep the arts alive in Shebeta’s heart.  She always knew she was designed to live an “extra-ordinary” life!

Over the years, Shebeta tried her hand at many “ordinary” jobs.  In the 70s, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse. In the 80s, she managed a health food store and sold cars and in the 1990s, she was a top program director and manager for Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centers. But no matter how much money she made or how great the company was, Shebeta could never be satisfied with what she felt was the “ordinary” life that came with a “nine to five”, and was always doing something artistic on the side.

Now, with almost 35 years experience in the artistic community in both Chicago Illinois and Dallas Texas, Shebeta is living her dream!

For 13 years (1996 -2009) she served as the creator and director of the Drama Ministry at Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, Illinois under the leadership of Dr. Bill Winston and is currently the Executive Director of The Anointed Harvesters NFP, a 501c3 nonprofit that was born in 2003 from the Drama Ministry, co-founded with her daughter, Maisha Carter.

The Anointed Harvesters specializes in encouraging, uplifting, educating and economically enhancing the community through the creative arts (stage plays, videos, television and feature films).

In 2007, Shebeta served as Executive Producer on the feature film “Of Boys and Men” starring Robert Townsend, Angela Bassett and Victoria Rowell.  This project was the platform for the Film Shadow Training and Internship Program, where film industry professionals were partnered with nearly 50 individuals from the community that aspire to work in the film industry. Of Boys and Men was released on DVD in 2011 by Warner Bros and is enjoying a successful run on BET.

During her career, she has been an ensemble member of “The Chicago Comedy Company” with her brother, Former Illinois State Senator Rickey Hendon, as well as co-host of the television program “The Video Party” and the “Positive Action” radio show on WVON in Chicago.

As a creative artist, Shebeta has penned scripts for radio commercials, skits and co-authored two full length stage plays, “Family Reunion” and “The Video.”

A 2004 graduate of the Joseph Business School, Shebeta is also the owner of “Keep It Simple Consulting”, a drama and nutritional consulting firm that provides nutritional group seminars, workshops and individual counseling, as well as artistic support to independent producers of stage plays, videos, feature films and various media productions.

A 2009 graduate of the LWCC School of Ministry, Shebeta is currently apprenticing at Charis Bible College, Chicago where she graduated from in May 2012 as a licensed Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her work is positively impacting lives at schools, churches, private events and correctional facilities.
